Every STREICH bag is handcrafted out of carefully selected vintage components, which have already experienced a lot in their former live. Very strong military tent canvas is used for the outer shell. Depending on how long these fabrics were in use, they stand out with their unmistakable patina, which makes every piece unique. "I love things with real patina, it makes a surface alive, gives it a character," says company founder and designer Bruno Streich. He combines the individual parts in a way, that different people with different styles can wear the bags. All the bags have in common that only high-quality materials are used for each individual bag, whether it is made with a gun belt from the French army, leader straps from the Czech army or a zipper from the Swiss fighter jet pilot jacket.
SOCIAL COMMITMENT
For Bruno Streich, a certain social commitment is also important in the production of his bags. The world is in motion. The terms "army", "tent" and "bag" stand for the expulsion of humans. They live in tents in refugee camps and usually flee with only one bag full of belongings. Streich wants to close this complex cycle in a positive sense. That is why people in difficult life situations, mostly with migration background, sew the bags in Swiss social organizations.
STREICH bags live through their stories. Stories lived through the former use of the material, stories lived by the people who craft the bags, and all those stories that the bags will experience with its new owner.
No STREICH bag is equal to another. It is as individual as its owner!
ABOUT THE STREICH BRAND
The brand STREICH was created at the end of the summer of 2016 by Bruno Streich, a trained aerospace engineer, artist and designer.
After years of crafting bags out of used materials for himself and his friends, Bruno decided it was time to create his own brand and sell the bags to the public. The brand STREICH stands for not compromising with quality and for the use of materials with a history. Streichs love for patina and the unbeaten strength and look of vintage military canvas, leather and fittings and the dedication for strong and yet very simple functional designs is the source of inspiration for the STREICH bags.
As a trained aerospace engineer from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Streich is devoted to the form follows function philosophy, that leads to simple and very functional yet powerful designs.
In his work as an artist Bruno Streich creates interactive sculptural reductions in a twilight zone between form and function.
